READING MORE WORDS AT A TIME
We have been trained to mentally say each word to ourselves as we
read. This, we learned above, is what keeps up from reading faster.
We have also been trained into another bad habit. When we read,
we can take in whole groups of words at a time, but we have been
conditioned to see only one at a time.
You can read this whole page
in one glance, but because
of the way you have been
trained, you are reading this
only one word at a time.
Having to re-read, and sometimes not understand what you read, is
the curse of the "one word at a time" reader. The techniques
we are going to work on together will get you to break this habit.
